Myers Steak House & Inn History
June 27th, 2008Myers Steak House & Inn, formerly known as “The Wildwood House,” has been in existence for over 100 years. Started around the turn of the 20th Century by the Myers family, the property has enjoyed a colorful past. Originally it was occupied as a “Railroad Hotel” to provide accommodations and meals for railroad workers awaiting their next assignment. Mr. Ted Barczack, the next owner, began working part time as a bartender while still in High School.
After an interruption as a Soldier in World War II, Mr. Barczack returned to Salamanca and continued to serve local patrons and travelers. Sometime later he entered into a partnership with Mr. Stephen Myers until 1965 when Mr. Barczack purchased the property. He continued to operate the tavern and restaurant until his retirement in 1994. Local businesswoman Rosalyn Hoag and her husband, Donald Hammond, purchased the property that same year and made numerous upgrades and improvements.
Extensive remodeling of the upstairs took place in 1997, turning what was thirteen railroad dorm rooms and a single bath into a quaint, turn of the century hotel. Currently there are six wonderfully appointed guest rooms each with a full private bath, individual heat and air conditioning units as well as many antique furniture pieces.
The first floor has remained much the same as the early years. The walls are lined with American Chestnut, extinct in the United States for many years. Not only does this wood add beauty, but has also become an attraction for visitors to this historic Hotel.
Over the years many guests have returned for a nights stay, meals or to relive wedding receptions, family gatherings, baby showers and precious memories of time spent at Myers.
